In our last post we talked about how to decide weather or not to do a first look so if you missed it, check it out here, but once you’ve decided you want to do a first look, the next question becomes where would you like to do the first look?
Here are some things I think about when searching for the perfect first look location.
Lighting: Lighting can make or break a photo. It can take a photo from good to great. Outdoor locations usually have the best lighting, but there are often fun indoor locations near a window or beautiful doorway that are also worth checking out.
Setting: I like to look for open space or a fun texture when prepping for a first look. Something that doesn’t distract from the moment that will be shared by the Bride and Groom.
Availability: Sometimes you find the perfect location. You’ve scouted it out a head of time, thought about lighting and setting, you love the spot! The next question becomes is it available when you want to use it? This mostly comes into play if you’re doing a first look at the hotel you’re both getting ready at. Maybe there is a beautiful area there, but a business has rented the space. If you’re not sure about availability ask or if you’re still not sure, have a plan B.
Traffic: Is it a high traffic area? While the area may be beautiful, will it be possible or appropriate to clear all the people out of the background?
If you’re still looking for good ideas, here are a few spaces that I’ve used.
