Wedding: The Importance of Engagement Sessions

Engagement shoots are one of my favorite parts of our Wedding Collections!

For me, it’s a fun chance to get to know the Bride & Groom better. I guess you could say I’m a little bit of a romantic. I love getting to hear how my couples met, got engaged and their future hopes and dreams.

Here are a few shots from some of my last engagement shoots…

I love how different each shoot is! While there are your staple Engagement shots, the memorable shots are the ones with your personality and story woven into the photos.

Sometimes I get asked why the engagement shoots are included in my Wedding Collections.

I intentionally include an engagement shoot in all of my collections because it gives us a chance to work with the couple before their wedding. As your photographers, we want to be able to give you different tips and trips to help you look your best in your wedding photos. While we could do this the day of your wedding…we rather have fun and work with you before your wedding and the joyful chaos of the day.

We also want to make sure you’re both comfortable in front of the camera before your wedding day. While you may be ready for your close-up, sometimes the Groom is a little more nervous about having a photographer following him around all day.

For me working with both of you in advance is important so I don’t discount for unused engagement shoots. If you’ve already done an engagement shoot, plan to do something different for this engagement shoot. If you did a city shoot before, do a shoot at a forest preserve. If you did a casual one before, do a high fashion one this time!

If you’re feeling really ambitious, many of my past Brides who have already done engagement shoots will take the day off, do their hair and makeup trial then come see me. It’s a great way to see how your hair and makeup will photograph, plus, it’s always fun to get your fiancé all dressed up again!
