Dad on Your Wedding Day

For Brides

Wedding days move quickly.

There’s a timeline, people to see, places to be… and before you know it, you’re walking down the aisle.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, is your Dad.

A Little Personal Note

My Dad and I are pretty tight.

As the oldest of three girls, I got to do a lot of the “boy” things with him growing up. Fishing, playing catch, going to work with him, early morning breakfast runs… just the fun, everyday things that ended up meaning so much more over time.

When it came time to find my wedding dress, I knew I wanted both my Mom and my Dad there.

My Dad had come with me to pick out every dress for every dance growing up. There was no way he wasn’t going to be there for this one.

And I’m so glad he was!

I remember him seeing me in my dress on our wedding day… but I wish we would have captured that moment.

By the time we were walking down the aisle, we were a soggy mess. 🤍

He started tearing up, I started crying, Blake was trying to hold it together… and I remember our pastor joking, “Can someone get these guys some tissues?”

It was one of the sweetest moments of the day.

But it all happened so fast.

Why a First Look with Dad Matters

If this relationship is special to you, a first look with your Dad is one of the most meaningful things you can build into your day. : )

It’s simple.

A few quiet minutes. Just the two of you. Before everything begins. No distractions. No timeline pressure.

Just space to:

  • Take it in
  • Hug a little longer
  • Say the things you might not have time to say later

Because once the day starts moving… it really doesn’t slow down.

If I could go back, this is something I would have made space for.

If Your Dad Isn’t Here

For some of you, this part of the day may feel different.

And if that’s your story, I just want to say… my heart is with you. 🤍

I’ve seen some incredibly meaningful ways our Watson Brides have chosen to honor Dad on their wedding day:

  • A photo of him while getting ready
  • A reserved seat during the ceremony
  • Wearing or carrying something that belonged to him
  • Incorporating something he loved, like his favorite drink or music

There’s no one right way to do this.

Think about what made your relationship special… and find a way to weave that into your day.

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re making space for your Dad or honoring his memory, this is one of those parts of the day that stays with you.

It doesn’t have to be big. It just has to be intentional.

Wedding days are full… but we always have time for what matters most. 🤍

Much Love,
