Engagement Session Location Ideas- Downtown Chicago

post filed in:

For Brides

If you’re a new Watson Bride, you’re probably starting to think about your engagement session and where you would like to have it done.

If you’re feeling a little stuck, this series is for you!

Here are a few questions I like to ask my couples…

  • Are you looking for a nature backdrop or more of a downtown feel?
  • Are there any locations that are special to you? (Because I’m always down to check out a new location!)

If you’re looking for a more nature back drop, check out this post. If you’re looking for a local downtown feel, check out this post from last week!

If you’re looking for a Chicago backdrop, this post is for you!

One of the best parts of living in the area, is access to, “The City.” While there are TONS of stunning backdrops, here are just a few of my favorite locations I’ve shot downtown Chicago.

Lincoln Park & Photography Point

  • Meet Up Address: 68 N Lake Shore Dr, Chicago IL 60614
  • Parking: Paid Parking Lot.
  • Public Restroom to Change: No.
  • Are Dogs Allowed? Yes.
  • Photography Permit: None Required (LP Zoo does require a permit.)

What I love about this location is the HUGE variety of shots we can get here! I usually like to start by the Lincoln Park Zoo nature area, then take the pedestrian walkway over Lakeshore Drive to the beach. Finally, ending at Photography Point for an epic sunset skyline shot. 🙂 I think you’ll see what I mean in the shots below.

Milton Lee Olive Park

  • Meet Up Address: E Ohio St, Chicago, IL 60611
  • Parking: Paid Parking. Recommend Spot Hero.
  • Public Restroom to Change: No.
  • Are Dogs Allowed? Yes!
  • Photography Permit: None Required

The best part of this location is that it’s dog friendly. While I still recommend bringing a third person to help with your pup, they’re very welcome at Milton Lee Olive Park.

This park also offers a fantastic skyline view, a beautiful tree line and we can walk down to the Ohio Street beach easily.

Museum Campus

  • Meet Up Address: Shedd Aquarium- 1200 S Lake Shore Dr, Chicago, IL 60605
  • Parking: Paid Parking. Recommend Spot Hero. Usually a decent walk from parking to location.
  • Public Restroom to Change: No.
  • Are Dogs Allowed? Not Recommended.
  • Photography Permit: None Required

While I’ve only shot this location a couple of times, it’s awesome! I love the skyline shot that it offers, the backdrop of the museums in the background and the overall esthetic of the campus. It feels classic and elegant. Check it out!

I hope this post and this three part series was helpful to you! There are so many beautiful locations in this area, but it was fun to highlight just a few of my favorites. 🙂

If you have another fun location in mind, let me know! Always game to check out a new spot.

Much Love,
