How to Coordinate Your Ceremony Exit

Wedding Tips & Tricks

You’ve just said, “I do.” Just shared your first kiss as husband & wife and now it’s time for your ceremony exit!

What To Exit To

The first thing you’ll want to consider is what would you like guests to have for your ceremony exit. While the most popular option is bubbles, here are a few other things I’ve seen.

Pro Tip: Make sure to check with your venue to make sure what you select is allowed!

  • Bubbles
  • Rose Petals
  • Doves
  • Ribbon tied to a stick for people to waive
  • Dried flowers crushed to look like confetti. (Biodegradable Option!)

While I’ve seen all of these, bubbles are the most popular. This is because no matter your venue, they’re usually allowed and they’re easy to find.

How To Make It Happen

The next question is how to make it happen. In general, there are two different ways to coordinate your exit. How depends on where you hosted your ceremony, inside a church/venue or outdoors.

Church or Indoor Venue Ceremony Exits

If you’re getting married at church or inside your venue, I recommend making your exit down the aisle then finding a place to hide while your guests exit.

As soon as your guests are ready, make your grand exit out of your church or venue!

Pro Tip: Guys, make sure to spin your new wife around! If you’re feeling really crazy, you can even dip her and kiss her!

Outdoor Ceremony Exits

Outdoor ceremonies are so pretty! If you’re getting married outdoors I recommend passing out the bubbles before your ceremony. This way when you walk down the aisle together at the end of your ceremony, guests can blow bubbles for stunning final images!

Pro Tip: If you’re feeling up to it, see if you can find a couple of bubble machines! Just two of these can make a huge difference in your final images. 🙂

FAQ…

Q: Should we do Family photos before we exit?

A: Awesome question! We want to release your guests as soon as possible so they can head out to cocktail hour so we’ll do your exit and then jump into family photos.

Check out this post for my top tips to Rock Family Photos.

Q: Since we’ll be walking down the aisle at church first, how do we hide from guests before our exit?

A: Oooh! I love this question! Okay. Once you walk down the aisle and enter the narthex or foyer area, there is usually a place where you can hide or go downstairs for a few minutes while guests exit to the outdoors.

Q: Who passes out the bubbles?

A: Indoor Ceremony- I recommend having the ushers or bridal party pass out bubbles as guests exit. This way you can hide before your ceremony exit.

A: Outdoor Ceremony- If you’re getting married outdoors, have the ushers pass these out as guests are seated. This way as your walk down the aisle, guests can blow bubbles then.
