Choosing Intentionality

Choosing Intentionality Even in Uncertainty

I don’t know about you, but I feel like this past week or so has been a whirlwind of change and uncertainty. COVID-19 is a serious issue and it’s changed things for everyone, though in varying degrees of severity. If I’m being honest, I think I’ve felt more range in emotion this past week than I usually do in a year. 😅

However, in the quieter moments. When I’ve been able to calm my heart, take a deep breath and re-center myself, this is the thought that keeps coming back to me…

How can I take advantage of this season? Be intentional even in the uncertainty and share joy with you.

So I made a list. Three lists actually. Ideas on how we can be intentional in this season with our significant others, with our friends, (Even with social distancing.) and be intentional with the extra time we have for ourselves.

There’s a wide range of things here, but these are things Blake and I are doing and we hope it brings a little more joy into your life right now. ❤️

Date Ideas With Your Man

#1. Create Your Couples Bucket List.

This is actually something Blake and I created when we were just dating. A giant list of fun things we wanted to do together. Everything from goofy movies we wanted to see, to hot air balloon rides and places to travel.

Grab a notebook, dream big and when you check these things off, now you have a place to keep the memories. 🙂

#2. Get Outside Together and Move Around.

Maybe it’s just us, but I think some of our best memories have happened when we’re outside together. From playing Frisbee in an empty parking lot in our teenage years, (Our first kiss!) to scooting around the neighborhoods today. Get outside, enjoy the fresh air and just see where life takes you. 🙂

Walk, bike, rollerblade, frisbee, catch, run, forest preserves, the neighborhood, walk your dog together, wash the car, garden! Just a few more fun ideas. 😉

#3. Have a Game Night.

Last night we took out our “Bob Ross Art of Chill” board game. It was actually a little confusing, so after reading the directions and watching a YouTube video, we packed the game back up and played Dutch Blitz instead.

Still a fun night and a memory I will not soon forget.

#4. Cook Together.

Okay… this is something Blake and I don’t really do well and I don’t think we’ll try it during lock up either. It’s one of those dreamy things I see photos of on Pinterest, but we haven’t mastered it quite yet.

However, our friends told us about this fun tradition they have and you may love it.

Each Valentine’s Day, they choose a meal they want to cook together, but not just any meal. Something really ambitious. This year they made Ramen from scratch. From searching for the ingredients, making the noodles and putting it all together, it took three days!

The final result? Lots of fun memories and exceptional food. 🙂

Bonus Idea: Discover Your Enneagram Number.

I talked about this recently, but I LOVE the Enneagram! It’s a fun way to discover more about yourself, your man and it’s been an awesome tool in our marriage. The more you understand each other, the better you can love and serve each other.

Connection with Your Friends

#1. Use Video to Connect.

Missing small group each week has been such a bummer! These 10 ladies mean the world to me and not being able to see them, hear about their weeks and share a hug has been hard.

But we can still connect with each other and you can too. It just looks a little different right now.

FaceTime allows you to video chat with up to 10 iPhone users at a time and Google Hangouts lets you connect with up to 25 people at the same time!

While it wasn’t the same as connecting in person, we have our weekly video connect scheduled and I’m looking forward to our next one. 🙂

#2. Netflix Party.

I wasn’t sure about this when I first heard about it, but it’s actually really cool! Netflix Party allows you to watch your favorite shows with your friends virtually. Share the link, hit play and use the chatbox to connect as you watch. Learn more here!

#3. Call a Friend a Day.

It can be easy to feel alone in this season, but you’re alone and you’re not alone in the way that you feel.  Check-in on your friends. See if there is any way you can help them out or just ask them about their day.

I actually just got off the phone with a friend. Apparently, she has a new boyfriend! Even now, good things are happening all around us.

Save Time for Yourself + Self Care

#1. Read a Book.

One of my favorite things to do is snuggle up on our red couch with a blanket, a warm drink and my Kindle. I just started The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapen. I’m not too far into it, but so far, pretty good.

Fun Fact: If you have an Amazon Prime membership, you have access to a huge digital library included with your membership. Not a Prime member? Check your local library!

#2. Continued Education.

As a  f o r e v e r  curious soul, one of my favorite things to do is learn from others. Especially, other industry leaders. Over these next couple of weeks, I’ll be learning from my favorite educator Katelyn James. It’s something I’ve wanted to fit in for a while and now I can. 🙂

Whatever your interests may be, see if there is someone you want to learn from! I love getting to learn from Katelyn and like her, many educators are offering free classes. See what you can find!

Just me, my MOH, leg34 and my favorite instructor Jess Sims. 😀

#3. The Peloton App.

While this is the last thing I’m sharing today, it’s also one of the things I’m MOST excited about!

I started using the Peloton App a couple of months ago when my Maid of Honor, Lauren, introduced me to it. I was unsure about it at first. I already had a gym membership I was paying for and not using. How would this be any different?

Here is what I love about the app…

  • I get to work out with Lauren even though she lives across the country.
  • I can literally roll out of bed and onto my yoga matt in the morning.
  • Jess Sims. Her strength classes are THE BEST! #NewFanGirl
  • You don’t have to have any fancy equipment.
  • They have a FREE 30 day trial!

More than anything though, it’s something that fits my lifestyle and keeps me active.

This app may or may not be for you, but whatever you do, remember to stay active in this season. Being healthy is mind, body and soul. 😉

Bonus Find: Learn to Draw Your Favorite Disney Characters.

Yes. This is  A M A Z I N G !  Disney animator Michael Woodside is teaching a different character each day at noon. Just a few of the characters he has taught so far are; Donald Duck, Pooh Bear, Pascal and Olaf.

If you’re looking for something fun, check him out on Instagram and YouTube.

While this is a season I never expected, I’m choosing to be intentional and make the best of it. 🙂 I hope you found a few fun things you can do over these next few weeks to be intentional and share joy.

Know that we love you and tag us on social so we can see how you’re being intentional with those you love!
