Engagement: Bringing Your 4 Legged Friend?

Here is what you need to know… first, I love when we can include your puppy in your engagement shoot!

My husband and I started fostering this guy a few months ago and my life is forever changed, I love him! Kronos has become a huge part of our lives, I love getting to walk him with Blake, watch him and Blake goof around in the back yard and just sitting next to him while watching my favorite Netflix series.

To be honest, I didn’t always get it. I didn’t grow up with a dog. Remember those little fun fair fish? That’s what I grew up with. Only they never lasted very long,  m a y b e  a week. My parents couldn’t figure out why, then they busted me taking the fish out of the water and petting them. Whoops! I should add I was maybe 3 or 4. I just wanted to pet our beautiful little friends!

All that to say, I’ve finally gotten the chance to foster a dog, I love it and I love getting to meet your four legged friends. : )

If you have a dog you want to include in your engagement shoot, here are a few tips and tricks for you…

  • Bring treats!
  • Bring a friend
  • Bring a leash, doggie bags and something cute!
  • Be prepared for it to take a few tries

Treats are always a win with dogs. They want to make you happy, the treat lets them know how they can AND is a great way to get them to look at the camera. I’ve been taking photos of Kronos for a few months now and at first the camera kind of freaked him out! It’s this giant box covering my face, it’s a little weird, but after a few tries he started to get it. Now he just tolerates me. Just kidding, he loves it. : )

I also recommend bringing a friend with. While I LOVE including our puppies in engagement shoots, the engagement shoot is about you, your fiance and making sure you’re both comfortable in front of the camera. It’s also when I’ll get to teach you different poses so you can rock it on your wedding day! By bringing a friend, they can wear your dog out if your dog has a lot of energy at the start of the shoot and they can entertain your dog or take them home when it’s time to focus on you and your soon-to-be husband. ; )

Bring a leash and doggie bags. I think I can leave it at that. What you may not have thought about are cute things you can bring for the shoot! Different couples bring different things. Some bring chalk boards, bow ties or cute signs. Others are just pumped they got their dog in the car. Wherever you fall on the spectrum, let me know where you’re at and I’ll do some brainstorming before your shoot. : )

Finally, be prepared for it to take a few tries. None of these shots were the first we took, but we had fun while getting here!

I hope you found this post helpful. If you have something else you want to hear about, let me know! rachael@rachaelwatsonphotography.com I always love hearing from my past, present and future couples. : )
