Finding Your Perfect Wedding Veil

post filed in:

For Brides

Wow. Veil photos are some of my all-time favorite shots to get. While I didn’t wear a veil on my wedding day, I wish I had! To me, it was one more thing to get, I didn’t know how much the veil could add and how romantic the shots can be. (Hey girl!) I LOVE the photos where the veil is wrapping around you or flowing in the wind. They’re romantic, playful and shots that stand out.

Now that I’m a wedding photographer, I get it! I want to make sure you know all your options so here are two things to consider when picking yours out.

But First…

Pro Tip: Your man is going to be so excited when he sees you for the first time! He is going to wrap his arms around you and tell you how beautiful you are. Yay! But… he also may pull your hair without the proper coaching. Set him up for success.

When he wraps his arms around you over top of the veil, it pulls the comb holding the veil in, your hair and sometimes can even pull the veil out! By going under, you avoid these awkward moments and can flawlessly move into romantic portraits. 😉

Two things to consider when choosing your wedding veil.

#1. Length: While there are many different lengths. The most popular I’ve seen are Fingertip and Cathedral. While each of these offers different benefits, I recommend considering what length you feel most comfortable in and what length will get you the romantic portraits you’ve been dreaming about.

#2. Weight: Some of my all-time favorite wedding veils have had beautiful lace or beading around the edge. These are stunning details and I love using them in the morning when styling your engagement ring, jewelry, invitation, all the wedding details! Just remember, the heavier the veil, the less it will naturally blow in the wind. We can still work our magic, but just something to keep in mind. : )

I hope you’ve found this helpful! There are so many stunning veil options out there. Try on lots of styles and have fun picking yours out. You may be surprised what you end up choosing!
