#ShadowWatson
It’s hard to believe we’ve had Shadow almost a month! I guess you could say that our four legged friends have been on my mind. 🙂 To read Shadow’s adoption story, click here.
Our dogs come to mean so much to us! They capture our hearts and have us doing the goofiest things. Walking in very cold weather, buying toys that will be shredded in less than a day and actually reading the ingredients their food, possibly more than our own. 😳
Of course we want to include them in our engagement sessions!
However, for most of our dogs. Being in front of the camera, a giant black box covering a person’s face will be a… kind of weird experience.
Every time I try to get photos of Shadow he either dips out or he tries to sniff the camera out.
I do get lucky sometimes though. 😉
To help your pup rock out your engagement session, here are the top four things you can do. 🙂
Just like when you’re teaching your dog a new trick, high reward treats are key. This gets their attention on the camera and lets them know when they’re doing a good job.
These treats get them excited! Their ears perk up and all the sudden, they’re camera ready. 😉
This leads me to number 2.
And that’s totally okay! While the treats are super helpful, it’s still something new to our pups. We didn’t get any of these shots on the first try. (But we do have some super cute out-takes.) Totally normal!
When you first arrive, your pup may need to burn off some energy. I recommend bringing a friend, leash/harness and doggie bags. This way they can walk your pup around while we’re catching up and going through my four core poses.
Pro Tip: Once we finish photos of you and your dog, your friend can head out with your dog and we can keep getting shots of just the two of you. 🙂
Every couple is different. Some couples bring cute bow ties, signs or even toys! Other couples are just happy they made it with their dog/s. Wherever you’re at, totally fine. 🙂 Just another fun thing to think about as you prep for your engagement session.
I hope you’ve found this post helpful! I always love getting to meet your dogs and including them in your engagement session. If you have any other questions, send them my way! I always love getting to hear from you. 🙂
Much Love Friend,
PS. Do you have a different pet you want to include? You’re in good company! Just let me know and we can get creative. Check out these shots from a couple other engagement sessions. 😀
