3 Questions to Consider When Planning Your Proposal

post filed in:

For Brides

While I love the Christmas lights, warm blankets and cozy socks, I also love December because so many couples will get engaged and each year, I have the honor of capturing a few of these magical moments.

With that in mind, today, I’m sharing three things to remember so that you can execute a smooth and memorable proposal.

If you know someone currently planning their proposal, share this with them!

You probably already have an idea of the location you would like to propose, and hopefully you’ve found a photographer you love, but here are some other things to consider… ; )

#1. What time is sunset the day you would like to propose?

This time of year, sunset can sneak up on us. It’s WAY earlier than Summer so you may want to consider proposing earlier in the day. Plan your proposal for 45 minutes before sunset. This way we can capture that golden hour glow, get some sweet, “Just Engaged” photos then you can head out to dinner to celebrate!

If you do propose after sunset, no worries, we can always swing it. Night shots are unique, they’re fun and may fit into your proposal plan better when it comes to timing.

#2. Why are you going where you’re going?

One of the hardest things to do is to keep the proposal a surprise. As you plan your proposal, make sure to think through WHY you’re headed to the location you’re headed. Are you taking “family photos” or have you heard about this incredible scenic location? Do you want to take her to your new favorite coffee shop?

This is probably the number one thing that will tip off a Bride-to-be, but it doesn’t have to be! By spending a little time thinking about it in advance, you’ll be able to surprise her. : )

#3. Would you like to include family or friends?

Sometimes family & friends want to be nearby to witness the proposal, I love this! If you do have then nearby, make sure to set aside a little extra time to take photos with them before sunset to capture the extra excitement.

Bonus: If you’ve hired a photographer to capture your proposal, (And I hope you have!) here are a few things to remember…

  • Verify the exact date, time & location you plan to propose.
  • Share a photo of you and your soon-to-be fiancé or what you’re wearing to help your photographer spot you.
  • Share your location with your photographer an hour before the proposal so they know when you’re getting close to your pre-chosen location.

I hope this post was helpful to you! If you have other questions about the proposal or proposal photography, let me know! I always love hearing from you.

Much Love,
