RWP Process: Technical Questions

post filed in:

For Brides

Welcome back!

Today, we’re breaking down some of the technical questions I recommend asking your prospective wedding photographer.

While I’m not a super techy person, I think it’s important to go through these questions so that our Watson Brides can learn a little more about the behind the scenes if they want to. : )

In case you missed it, this is just one of five categories of questions I recommend asking your prospective wedding photographer. For the full list, check out this post.

Kicking us off…

Q: What kind of gear do you shoot with and do you have backup equipment?

A: At RWP we shoot with professional level gear AND our backup gear is professional. This means a couple of things…

Canon R6 Camera Bodies- These camera bodies are, “full frame, mirrorless” cameras so that our couples have final images with the best resolution possible.

Dual Card Slots- This is HUGLY important. Especially, for wedding photographers. All Canon R6 camera bodies have, “Dual Card Slots.” What this means is that when we take one photo, it automatically records to two different SD Cards so that photos are automatically saved in two locations till your images can be backed up right after your wedding. ; )

“L” Series Lenses- As Canon shooters, we also shoot with, “L” series lenses. This is Canon’s “Luxury” lens line up. More importantly, they have apertures that are 2.8 or wider allowing lots of light in for dark lighting situations and for that creamy background style our couples love.

Q: How do you handle light in dark rooms/situations?

A: One of the things our Watson Brides love is our bright and colorful editing style. When I’m in a situation where we have to take photos in a dark room, think your wedding reception, I use an “Off Camera Flash” system or “OFC” to mimic the natural light style our couples love.

I LOVE having an OCF system that allows us to capture these incredible moments in detail. It’s your wedding day and we want to capture the full picture. : )

Bonus: Our OCF system is also how we capture these spectacular sparkler exits!

Q: Do you shoot in RAW or .jpg?

A: At RWP we shoot in RAW. This means we have lots more flexibility when it comes to editing images after your wedding day. Think of it as the difference between trying to edit a .pdf (.jpg) VS. a Word or Google doc (RAW). There is a big difference! In our opinion, RAW is the way to go.

I hope this post was helpful to you! It’s a lot of technical things that can feel overwhelming, but hopefully, this helped to break it down just a little more as you search for your wedding photographer. : )

If you have other questions you would like to see answered, just let me know, and as always, thanks for following along!

Much Love,
