Rachel and Philip’s love story began in April 2023 within the walls of the church where Rachel grew up, a significant place and the place they will get married later this year. While Rachel was no stranger to this sacred space, Philip was a new face in town, having recently exited army life and moved to Itasca for work. Although Philip’s interest in Rachel was immediate, Rachel wasn’t ready quite yet. Demonstrating patience and resilience, Philip chose friendship over pursuit, biding his time until Rachel was ready. Something they were both grateful for because this period of waiting only strengthened their bond, and set the foundation for what was to come.

Their friendship eventually took a romantic turn when Philip asked Rachel out at the end of October. Despite an initial hesitation, Rachel, after a period of reflection and prayer, agreed to a date. This marked the beginning of a series of shared experiences – from casual coffee shop visits next to Philip’s house to thrilling Blackhawks games, further cemented by mutual interests like hitting the gym together.

This past July, their relationship took a significant leap forward during a hike at Devil’s Lake State Park when Philip proposed in a setting surrounded by nature, earning them applause from passing hikers. The celebration continued back home with a surprise engagement party thrown by Rachel’s mom and sister, joyously wrapping up the day with family and friends. Their journey, marked by patience and friendship beautifully illustrates how true love isn’t just about the right timing but also about the depth of connection, faith and shared experiences.
